If the backup heating source is a fossil fuel heating system, the pre-set outdoor temperature at which the fossil fuel system turns on must be at or below the Outdoor Temperature Cap.

Today's cold-climate heat pumps can provide efficient heating at outdoor temperatures as low as -15ºF and operate at 2–4 times the efficiency of a boiler or furnace. Customers are encouraged to work with their contractor to choose a temperature setting that maximizes heat pump usage and aligns with their comfort and efficiency goals.

*Pre-set outdoor temperatures are verified during post-installation inspections and are based on 2019–2021 average fuel costs. The 30°F cap for natural gas heating systems is designed to support reduced greenhouse gas emissions rather than operational savings.

2. Find a Qualifying Contractor
   To qualify, the integrated controls must be installed by a contractor participating in the Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network.
3. Purchase & Install Eligible Equipment
   Work with your contractor to purchase and install an eligible integrated control with your existing air source heat pump.
4. Submit Rebate Form with Required Documentation

• Offers valid only for residential customers in Massachusetts where Berkshire Gas, Cape Light Compact, Eversource, Liberty Utilities, National Grid, or Unitil is the Program Sponsor
• Units must be installed between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026, by a contractor participating in the Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network
• Unit must be listed on the Mass Save Integrated Control Qualified Product List
• Unit must be new and installed as an add-on to an existing air source heat pump
• Rebate form and supporting documentation must be received by February 28, 2027
