Three ways mini-splits will help you keep you cool this summer

May 30, 2017

Back in January, we shared a post on this blog about the many benefits of mini-split heat pumps as an efficient heating solution. Well guess what? Mini-split heat pumps pull double duty and are an efficient cooling solution for your home, as well!

So if you’re tired of installing window A/C units in the spring and taking them out in the fall, or if fans aren’t keeping you cool enough, consider a mini-split heat pump system to keep you cool all summer long.

Here are three benefits to consider.

Easy installation

Mini-split heat pump systems consist of two main parts – a condenser that sits outside your home and indoor air handlers that provide cool air in the summer and warm air in the winter. There is usually no ductwork required, making installation relatively easy and unobtrusive.

Energy efficient cooling

One of the biggest advantages a mini-split system has over a central air conditioning system in terms of efficiency is the lack of ducts. On average, as much as 30% of conditioned air can escape duct work as it is delivered into each room of your home. This causes an air conditioner to run more often to keep rooms at the temperature you want. Without ducts, a mini-split system can blow cooled air directly into a room.

Zone temperature control

Placing a few air handlers in different rooms throughout your home gives you the ability to create individual zones to cool in the summer or heat in the winter. That means you can keep the living room comfortable without having to cool off the guest room if no one’s visiting, helping you save even more energy.

Mass Save rebates available

One of the best reasons to consider a mini-split heat pump system is the rebate available from Mass Save. The rebate amount you may qualify for depends on the efficiency of the system.
An added benefit -- mini-splits are an efficient solution to keep you warm in the winter, as well, especially if your primary heating system is electric baseboard or fueled by propane.
