The Sponsors of Mass Save Win Award for Energy Efficiency Leadership in Commercial Heating and Cooling Two Years in a Row

WALTHAM, MA. (May 1st, 2019) – For the second year in a row, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized the Sponsors of Mass Save for its leadership in replacing inefficient HVAC equipment, known as rooftop units (RTUs), with energy-efficient upgrades.

The Better Buildings Alliance’s Advanced Rooftop Unit Campaign (ARC) – a DOE initiative – recognized Mass Save’s Commercial and Industrial HVAC program for the most installations of high-efficiency RTUs and advanced controls through an efficiency program. Commercial buildings often use RTUs for cooling, heating, or a combination of both. The Mass Save Commercial and Industrial HVAC program is sponsored by Cape Light Compact, Eversource, National Grid and Unitil.

The Sponsors were presented with the award alongside other 2019 Advanced RTU Campaign Recognition awardees during the 2019 Professional Retail Store Maintenance (PRSM) National Conference in Denver, Colorado on April 30th.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition from the DOE for the second year in a row,” said Maggie Downey, Cape Light Compact Administrator. “The success of our Commercial and Industrial HVAC program is due in large part to the participation of HVAC distributors throughout the state. Partnering with them directly helps us provide discounts that make highly energy-efficient equipment accessible to as many customers as possible. We are committed to continuing our work with HVAC distributors throughout Massachusetts in order to keep providing the best money and energy-saving solutions for our customers.”

Mass Save Commercial and Industrial HVAC program encourages distributors to keep the energy-saving equipment in stock, preventing unnecessary delivery delays that often lead to businesses purchasing less efficient units.

In 2018, Mass Save’s program led to 6,451 total qualifying units sold across the state, which saved customers over 10,660,182 kWh annual savings, or over $27 million in lifetime energy bill savings.
