Save $600 now and save every year with a heat pump hot water heater

November 30, 2017

With the holidays coming, wouldn’t it be nice to have $600 back in your pocket? You could use that money on gifts for those that matter most to you. Or you could just save it away for a rainy (or snowy) day.

When you upgrade your older electric water heater (10+ years) or replace a broken one with an electric heat pump hot water heater, you may be eligible for a rebate up to $600 from Mass Save.

Beyond the rebate, a heat pump hot water heater is a smart investment for your home that pays off every year. The units cost more upfront, but real savings come from lower operating costs. A family of four, for example, can see electric bill savings of around $300 annually, according to ENERGY STAR®.

These savings are a result of heat pump hot water heaters being two to three times more efficient than a conventional electric hot water heater. While a conventional electric resistance water heater uses electricity to generate heat, a heat pump water heater saves energy by transferring heat.

Think of it like a refrigerator, but in reverse. A heat pump pulls heat from the air surrounding the unit and uses it to heat the water. As long as the area where the water heater is installed is at least 50 degrees and has clearance from surrounding wall space (like in a basement rather than a closet), you should have plenty of warmth to keep it running efficiently and providing all the hot water your family needs.
