Five Reasons Why a Home Energy Assessment is Worth it
June 21, 2017
Do you find yourself feeling uncomfortable at home during the hottest summer days? Have you noticed your A/C always running? Are your energy bills higher than they should be? If any of these apply to you, scheduling a home energy assessment is a good idea. (Even if none of these apply to you, scheduling a home energy assessment is still a good idea.)
You’ll get a better understanding of how your home works.
When you schedule an assessment, an Energy Specialist will come to your home to check for all the areas where you may be wasting energy, paying close attention to the less obvious, out-of-sight areas that may be costing you big time. The Energy Specialist may perform a blower door test or use an infrared tool to determine where air leaks occur or where you may need additional insulation. They will also check the condition of your heating and cooling system, water heater, refrigerator, and other appliances. The entire process will take about 1.5-2.5 hours.
You’ll receive an action plan for energy saving improvements.
What good is pointing out where you can improve your energy use without having a plan of action? Your specialist will put together a list of recommended improvements, prioritized by which upgrades will have the greatest impact on your comfort and energy savings potential. These may include weatherization improvements like insulation and air sealing, as well as recommendations to replace outdated appliances, including your heating and cooling system. Your action plan is completely customized to your home.
You may qualify for valuable rebates and incentives.
Mass Save makes energy saving home improvements more affordable through various rebates and incentives. Getting a home energy assessment is often a necessary step in qualifying for certain rebates, like up to $2,000 toward insulation. You could also be eligible for up to $1,000 toward a cooling system replacement, up to $2,300 toward a heating system replacement, or up to $800 toward a new hot water heater. To cover additional costs after rebates, you may be eligible for a 0% interest HEAT Loan. Your Energy Specialist will provide rebate applications for you.
You’ll get instant energy savers installed at no cost.
During your assessment, the Energy Specialist may install energy saving equipment at no cost to you. This may include LED lighting, advanced power strips, thermostats, low-flow showerheads, or faucet aerators.
The best part is that the assessment doesn’t cost you anything. With no cost, very little effort involved, and much to gain, getting a home energy assessment is a no-brainer.
