Projects Up To 35 Tons

1. A Rebate Commitment Letter (pre-approval) must be obtained for all projects prior to equipment installation to be eligible for rebates. To request a Rebate Commitment Letter (RCL) go to Online Rebate Pathway. You can also download an application at Request Rebate Commitment Letter via Email.
2. Upon completion of installation, submit rebate application online by clicking the link found in your Rebate Commitment Letter approval e-mail. If you are an installer, you can register for an account and track all your active projects here.

3. The application may be selected for a post-installation inspection. The customer shall cooperate and provide access to the facility/equipment and the incentive will not be paid until the inspection is completed to the Sponsor's satisfaction.

Projects Over 35 Tons

1. Reach out to your electric Mass Save Sponsor for guidance on custom applications. Municipal light customers should work with their gas program Sponsor as applicable.
   • The project size cap is based on the total heat pump tonnage for all projects by customer account as of June 1,       2026.
   • Pre-approval notification will be provided as part of the custom pathway process.
   • Please be aware: while heat pump rebate levels remain unchanged, custom projects must meet cost-             effectiveness criteria and require additional project information.

• Equipment displacing natural gas eligible only for commercial or industrial metered customers receiving natural gas service from a Sponsor of Mass Save, including those in municipal electric territories.
• Equipment displacing oil, propane, or electric resistance eligible only for commercial or industrial metered customers receiving electric service from a Sponsor of Mass Save.
• Equipment must be listed on the Mass Save Heat Pump Qualified Product List (QPL).
• Equipment must be used for heating to supplement or replace existing oil, propane, natural gas, or electric-resistance systems.
  • Integrated controls automatically manage when a backup heating system turns on at a pre-set outdoor temperature, either as supplemental heat or the sole heating source.
• If fossil fuel heating equipment will remain in place, customers must either:
• Install an integrated control from the Mass Save QPL (MassSave.com/cihpqpl), or
• Certify that an existing building control system is capable of operating both the heat pump and existing heating equipment in parallel.

Documentation of control sequence may be required.

Customers should work with their contractor to determine the outdoor temperature at which the backup heating system turns on. The program allows your heat pump to continue operating even when the backup system turns on. This helps you maximize heat pump usage for greater energy savings and comfort.

Customers can choose the right temperature setting for their building based on current fuel prices, maximizing heat pump usage, or another strategy that balances utility cost, comfort and efficiency goals.



• Equipment that has already received a rebate from a Sponsor of Mass Save or is being installed in a new construction or major renovation project is not eligible for a rebate.

Contact your Sponsor before installation if:

• The proposed project is more than 35 tons.
• The proposed project is for a new building being constructed or a major renovation (visit www.MassSave.com/cincmr).

• The proposed project is for a multifamily building, as rebate eligibility depends on the metering of the facility.
• The heat pumps that are being installed will be using a hydronic or water loop internal to the building (i.e., not a ground loop) as a heat source/sink.
• You or your contractor has questions about project eligibility.
• The proposed project is replacing existing heat pump equipment.
