C12.1 MA Embodied Carbon and the Massachusetts Stretch Code
Timing: Thursday May 28th @ 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. EDT
Location: Online - Webinar
Course Description:
Embodied carbon is estimated to contribute nearly 50% of a building’s total carbon emissions across its lifecycle. The 2025 Massachusetts Stretch and Specialized Code for Commercial, Multifamily, and All Other Construction now offers optional measures for reducing Embodied Carbon. These energy code updates follow Massachusetts’ Embodied Carbon Reduction Plan, as the urgency to address the adverse effects of climate change intensify. This webinar will cover the new code options, focus on examples of each different embodied carbon implementation method, and teach you how to successfully earn credit for reducing embodied carbon on your projects!
Learning Objectives:
- Understand Embodied Carbon’s contributions to global greenhouse gas emissions.
- Gain awareness on Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and how Global Warming Potential (GWP) thresholds work for concrete and insulation.
- Familiarize with the new Section C406 options within the stretch code that provide credit for embodied carbon reduction.
- Learn how to use the Mass.gov resources to demonstrate embodied carbon reduction compliance with the 2025 Massachusetts Stretch and Specialized Code.
