As of January 1, 2026, new residential and light commercial heat pump Systems with a global warming potential (GWP) greater than 700, including Systems that use R-410A refrigerant, have been removed from the Heat Pump Qualified Product List (HPQPL).
Please note, new residential and light commercial heat pump variable refrigerant flow Systems that are 65,000 BTU/h or greater can be installed prior to January 1, 2027.
Additionally, self-contained heat pump Products with GWPs >700 that are fully assembled and charged at the factory can be installed prior to January 1, 2028.
- System: A grouping of HVAC components, otherwise known as split systems (ex: IDUs paired with ODUs).
- Product: A self-contained unit, otherwise known as a packaged heat pump (ex: evaporator coil, condenser, and compressor all located in one cabinet).
