Why are they a Mass Save Impact Award recipient?

The Town of Townsend has made energy efficiency a priority across its municipal and school facilities, pursuing improvements at its schools, Town Hall, fire and police stations, highway department, library, and recreation center. Following comprehensive energy audits, the town implemented a wide range of upgrades, including automatic energy controls, condensing water heaters, high-efficiency condensers, kitchen hood controls, LED lighting and controls, refrigeration controls, variable frequency drives, insulation, and weatherization measures.

These projects are projected to reduce annual energy consumption by approximately 350,000 kWh of electricity and 15,000 therms of natural gas, while avoiding nearly 2,100 metric tons of lifetime carbon dioxide emissions. Through its comprehensive approach to improving building performance across its portfolio, the Town of Townsend earned a 2026 Mass Save Impact Award.
