Big Y Foods has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to energy efficiency through extensive participation in Mass Save programs across more than 15 locations throughout Massachusetts.

With more than 200 completed energy-saving projects, the company has invested in a range of improvements, including energy-saving power outlet controls (ESPOs), anti-sweat heater controls, refrigerated case night covers, condenser replacements, floor scrubbers and refrigerant swaps and upgrades.

These efforts have delivered significant results, generating more than 12,000 MWh in electric savings and 15,000 therms in natural gas savings while helping improve the efficiency of store operations and, in just the last couple of years, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 2,000 metric tons. Big Y's continued investment in energy management and sustainability has earned the company recognition as a 2026 Mass Save Impact Award recipient.
