Cummings Properties has been named a 2025 Climate Leader in recognition of its ongoing commitment to identifying energy-saving opportunities and implementing efficiency projects across its portfolio.
As a developer, owner, and manager of more than 11 million square feet in 11 suburban communities north of Boston, Cummings oversees a wide range of facilities, including laboratories, clean rooms, offices, healthcare centers, restaurants, retail spaces, warehouses, satellite offices, and executive suites. Cummings leveraged its in-house design and construction teams to prioritize sustainable initiatives. Notable upgrades included electric heat pumps, LED lighting retrofits, enhanced building insulation and weatherization, and HVAC equipment and controls, including variable frequency drives (VFDs).
These measures reduce operating costs for both Cummings and its clients, as well as for two nonprofit senior living communities it supports. Altogether, these initiatives will generate a net lifetime savings of more than 2 million kWh of electricity – equivalent to avoiding the greenhouse gas emissions from driving 4.4 million miles in a gas-powered car.
