About Plumtree Church

Housed in a 56,000 square foot building, Plumtree Church (formerly known as the Evangelical Covenant Church of Springfield) offers spiritual and support services to their congregation, partner churches and the surrounding community. When exploring measures to improve energy efficiency, the church’s leadership prioritized cost-effective facility upgrades that will align with their mission and maintain the church building for years to come.

Challenge

Built in the 1950s, Plumtree Church needed a cost-effective and minimally disruptive approach to address inefficiencies in their aging building infrastructure. The leadership team wanted solutions that would improve comfort and reduce energy use while staying within the church’s budget.

The Results

  • Reduced energy consumption through lighting and weatherization upgrades
  • Significant estimated monthly savings on energy bills
  • Savings equivalent to CO2 emissions from 14 homes’ electricity use for one year

The Eversource Solution

By partnering with Eversource and authorized contractor Advanced Energy Group, Plumtree Church identified a few key energy saving measures and opportunities through the Small Business Energy Advantage program.

  • Weatherization measures: insulation in attic and walls, air sealing and weatherstripping
  • Steam pipe wrap insulation
  • LED lighting fixture replacements
  • Occupancy sensors and lighting controls
  • Incentives to cover upfront costs and 0% financing for the remaining balance
“Once our leadership team saw the savings numbers, they immediately approved the energy efficiency work. Thanks to Eversource and the Mass Save programs, this project was definitely worth doing.”
– Peter Newman, Facilities Assistant for Plumtree Church
