Thanks to the Mass Save Workforce Training Grant from Mass
Save Sponsors, Liberty and National Grid, Diman Regional
Vocational Technical High School received ten different models
of heat pumps. This grant allowed students to gain hands–on
experience with various installation and repair techniques,
including bending copper tubing, measuring, and mounting wall
units that distribute heat, as well as connecting the heat pumps to
condenser units. This practical experience is a crucial component
of their training in the school’s heating, cooling, air conditioning,
and refrigeration (HVACR) program.
The Mass Save program offers homeowners incentives to install
heat pumps as replacements or supplements to outdated fossil
fuel-based heating systems. Heat pumps are advanced climate
control devices that enhance energy efficiency for heating and
cooling homes. Rebates and federal tax credits are available for
installing air source or air-to-water heat pumps, which extract
warmth from outside air as well as for ground-source heat pumps,
which draw warmth from underground sources.
