Why They Are a 2025 Climate Leader
The City of Salem conducted a comprehensive audit of its entire portfolio, identifying nearly 50 projects across 17 City-owned buildings, including nine schools, five public safety buildings, the library, and two garages. These projects include lighting upgrades, kitchen improvements, pipe insulation, weatherization, and the installation of new controls at six schools. These upgrades are paving the way for electrification, with two building decarbonization projects set to begin soon.
The City of Salem has also conducted comprehensive building assessments at four facilities, laying the groundwork for deeper decarbonization and long-term energy conservation.
Through these initiatives the City reduced lifetime emissions by over 3,200 metric tons of CO2.
