Why They Are a 2025 Climate Leader

The City of Lynn was recognized as a 2025 Mass Save Climate Leader for completing energy efficiency projects across 16 municipal facilities, including 13 schools, City Hall, the public library, and a fire station. These projects included steam trap replacements, weatherization, lighting upgrades, chiller and transformer improvements, and the installation of a building management system.

To address school ventilation needs, HVAC systems were upgraded in nine schools, with energy recovery ventilation systems added to enhance efficiency. As part of its broader decarbonization efforts, the City of Lynn has implemented electrification solutions at multiple sites, including a 92-ton heat pump project at City Hall. The City of Lynn has also conducted comprehensive building assessments at three facilities, laying the groundwork for deeper decarbonization and long-term energy conservation.

Through these initiatives the city reduced lifetime emissions by nearly 4,900 metric tons of CO2.
