Highlights
Overview
Citizens for Citizens (CFC) is a long-standing non-profit Community Action Agency based in Fall River, Massachusetts, dedicated to supporting low-income individuals and families. From its historic 7,400 sq. ft. building constructed in 1897 and located in the heart of the city, CFC provides vital programs and services, including SNAP benefits, Fuel Assistance, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and many other resources designed to enhance economic stability and well-being.
Recognizing the building's age and its associated energy inefficiencies, an energy assessment was conducted, revealing that the facility was significantly drafty and poorly insulated: conditions that made it uncomfortably cold during winter months and contributed to high heating expenses. In response, Liberty, a Mass Save Sponsor, took action to improve the building’s energy efficiency. Their work included the installation of attic, wall, and pipe insulation, and comprehensive air sealing throughout the building.
Thanks to these upgrades, the building is now better equipped to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature year-round. Most notably, the improvements are projected to result in over $6,000 in annual savings on heating costs, allowing more of the agency's resources to go directly toward supporting its mission and the community it serves.
