The Sponsors of Mass Save® Expand Energy Efficiency Access for Small Businesses with 2026 Main Streets Initiative
June 15, 2026Main Streets offers no-cost assessments and efficiency upgrades through local municipal partnerships
BOSTON, MA (June 15, 2026) – As a part of their ongoing efforts to expand access to energy efficiency services and incentives for small businesses across the Commonwealth, the Sponsors of Mass Save® are continuing the 2026 Main Streets initiative. The targeted, community-driven outreach connects small business owners across Massachusetts with solutions to reduce energy use, manage operating costs, upgrade to more efficient technologies, and improve building performance.
Through Main Streets, energy experts visit participating municipalities to provide no-cost energy assessments. Since the program began in 2020, the Sponsors have worked with thousands of small businesses across more than 100 communities, helping identify energy-saving opportunities and improve overall building performance.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our local economies, and by making energy efficiency upgrades more accessible and affordable, we can help business owners take steps to strengthen their operations while reducing waste,” said Stephanie Terach, Energy Efficiency Manager at Eversource. “The Main Streets initiative exists to meet businesses owners where they are, offering no-cost assessments, on-site installations, and enhanced incentives that deliver savings and long-term stability.”
The Sponsors will host 2026 Main Streets events in the following cities and towns this year:
- Acton
- Ashfield
- Attleboro
- Berkshire County
- Colrain
- Conway
- Fall River
- Gloucester
- Hyannis
- Lawrence
- Leyden
- Provincetown
- Mashpee
- Martha's Vineyard
- Roxbury
- Woburn
- Watertown
- Westport
How Main Streets Works:
Participating businesses begin with a no-cost, no-obligation energy assessment to identify practical efficiency opportunities, which may include:
- Weatherization upgrades such as insulation or air sealing
- High-efficiency lighting improvements and occupancy sensors
- Programmable thermostats
- Refrigeration controls
To maximize convenience, select upgrades, including low-flow aerators and spray valves, may be installed on the spot at no cost. More comprehensive improvements are scheduled for a later date.
To ensure accessibility, all events offer language support and provide translated materials including outreach flyers, applications, and contracts in the primary languages spoken in each community.
Additional program benefits include:
- Enhanced incentives to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses for eligible improvements
- Interest-free financing options for remaining project costs, where available
- Installation by local, licensed contractors and energy specialists
- Warranties covering both materials and labor on all installed high-efficiency equipment
