18 entities to be recognized at Massachusetts State House for curbing energy use, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and investing in an energy-efficient future
BOSTON (October 8, 2025) – The Sponsors of Mass Save® today announced the 2025 Mass Save Climate Leaders. This distinguished recognition honors 18 entities across Massachusetts for their ongoing efforts to curb energy use, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and guide the Commonwealth to a net-zero future. The honorees will be recognized in a ceremony at the Massachusetts State House on Wednesday, October 15.
The 2025 Mass Save Climate Leaders represent a wide range of industries and sectors, including grocery, education, healthcare, municipalities, and more. Each honoree has shown a deep commitment to addressing the climate crisis by taking significant measures toward a sustainable future through energy efficient upgrades. Through those measures, this cohort avoided CO₂ emissions equivalent to the energy use of more than 7,400 homes for one year or more than 61.6 million pounds of coal burned.
The 2025 cohort of Climate Leaders is helping Massachusetts lead the nation in energy efficiency, reducing environmental impacts and increasing energy savings. Each honoree exemplifies how environmentally conscious actions by businesses, municipalities, and other leaders help the Commonwealth realize an equitable, affordable energy future.

“This year’s 18 Mass Save Climate Leaders have each demonstrated their commitment to meeting the state’s net-zero goals by implementing energy efficiency upgrades,” said Christopher Porter, Director of Customer Energy Management at National Grid. “The Sponsors are grateful for their contributions and look forward to continued collaboration that benefits Massachusetts’ economy and enhances the quality of life for people who live and work across the state.”
“Every single Mass Save Climate Leader is moving Massachusetts closer to a net zero future and the achievement of the state’s decarbonization goals while demonstrating that energy efficiency makes good financial sense,” said Tilak Subrahmanian, Vice President of Energy Efficiency and Electric Mobility at Eversource. “We commend the ongoing commitment shown by the 2025 winners and will continue to work collaboratively towards a more energy efficient, sustainable future for the Commonwealth with a focus on affordability.”
“Congratulations to the 2025 Mass Save Climate Leaders, who show us how businesses and cities and towns can lower their energy use and with energy efficient upgrades,” said Massachusetts Energy Resources Commissioner Elizabeth Mahony. “Massachusetts’ Mass Save programs help businesses, communities and households take control of their energy use and improve the places where people live, work, and raise their families. Thank you to our four Green Communities and the 14 energy-savvy businesses for leading the way.”
The efforts made by these entities underscore a strong commitment to energy efficiency, climate action and achieving the Commonwealth's net zero goals. Key initiatives tailored to drive savings include:
- New Bedford Public Schools implemented several energy-efficiency upgrades across their building portfolio including LED lighting and controls, water heating, and HVAC systems. These upgrades have resulted in over one million kWh in electric savings while ensuring a healthier, more comfortable learning environment for students.
- Vertex Pharmaceuticals made significant building upgrades, including the installation of high-performance LED lighting and lab equipment, an all-electric commercial kitchen, demand control ventilation for office areas, heat pump technologies and more. These energy-efficient technologies will eliminate over 1,320 metric tons of CO2, equivalent to the emissions of driving more than 3.3 million miles in a gas-powered car.
- Cummings Properties prioritized sustainable practices across laboratory, office, and other facilities through installation of electric heat pumps, LED lighting retrofits, enhanced building insulation and weatherization, and HVAC equipment and controls. Collectively, these measures will generate net lifetime savings of more than two million kWh of electricity – equivalent to avoiding the greenhouse gas emissions from driving 4.4 million miles in a gas-powered car.
