Custom Projects - Adding or Replacing End-of-Life Equipment
Buy down first costs of energy efficiency measures with custom incentives on energy-efficient lighting systems, HVAC, and more.
Unlike incentives for many prescriptive energy efficiency measures (such as high-efficiency lighting fixtures or water heaters), custom incentives apply to more complex or one-of-a-kind measures that go beyond traditional guidelines. The Sponsors of Mass Save® (Sponsor) offer incentives for custom projects can defray up to 75 percent of the incremental cost of high-efficiency solutions.
The following gas or electric high-efficiency measures, and others, may be eligible for custom incentives:
- Lighting Systems
- HVAC Systems (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)
- Demand Control Ventilation
- Pumping Systems
- Combustion Controls
- Heat Recovery
- Solar Thermal Systems
- Steam Systems
- Building Envelope
- Insulation and Weatherization
- Window Systems
- Energy Management Systems
- Process and Manufacturing Improvements
- Compressed Air Systems
- Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
- Combined Heat and Power (CHP) – please note, special incentives apply for CHP projects
An experienced energy engineer qualified by the Sponsors of Mass Save® will complete an engineering study of new construction projects to assess the savings potential of high-efficiency designs versus the minimum requirements of the Massachusetts building code. Sponsors will provide a cost share of up to 50 percent of the participating technical assistance vendor’s expense for savings analysis and consultation. Please download the Technical Assistance Application.
Before starting the application process, check with your Mass Save Sponsor to determine the eligibility of the proposed project.
All applications for incentives under the Custom Application Process require sound documentation of the proposed cost, projected electricity or natural gas savings, and the related non-energy savings.
This information must be submitted to the Sponsor’s Technical Representative for review and evaluation of potential incentives.
The Technical Representative will develop a Minimum Requirements Document which describes the equipment specifications and operational requirements of the proposed system. The customer will be required to sign this document.
After successful review and project approval, the Sponsor will notify the customer in writing of the project approval and the incentive amount. The customer must adhere to the Terms and Conditions in order to receive the final incentive payment.
