Appliances

Overview and benefits

Appliances account for about 20% of the average household’s energy use. Upgrading to ENERGY STAR® certified appliances can help you save significantly on yearly energy costs, compared to standard appliances, due to their optimum performance and energy efficiency.

When you purchase a new appliance, it’s important to consider the purchase price, as well as the price to operate the appliance over its lifetime. To find out how much you’ll spend on an appliance’s energy use, look at the yellow EnergyGuide label.
