LEDs that Support Our Veterans and Gold Star Families
June 14, 2017
Since September 11, 2001, over 200 service men and women from Massachusetts have given their lives fighting for our nation in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their losses deeply impact Massachusetts families and fellow service members. Massachusetts Fallen Heroes is a local nonprofit working to honor the Fallen and to provide a supportive community and advocacy services to families of the Fallen and returning Veterans.
The sponsors of Mass Save® – including Cape Light Compact, Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil – are proud to be partnering with Massachusetts Fallen Heroes for a second year on a fundraiser to honor those who have served. Specialty packs of LED bulbs will be sold to support Massachusetts Fallen Heroes’ mission of honoring the Fallen, assisting Gold Star Families, and empowering returning Veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
From June through November, Mass Save and retailer TechniArt will sell specialty LED packs at events across Massachusetts and online. Each pack will contain 10 ENERGY STAR® certified LED bulbs with a camouflage base. The price per pack will be $10, with $5 from every pack sold going to Massachusetts Fallen Heroes. Through sales at events, along with online purchases, the goal is to sell 5,000 LED packs and raise $25,000 for Massachusetts Fallen Heroes, which would exceed the approximately $22,000 raised last year.
Massachusetts Fallen Heroes focuses on providing resources and services to Gold Star Families and returning Veterans. Its Veteran’s Edge program offers Veterans improved access to legal, employment, medical, and housing services. Massachusetts Fallen Heroes also hosts annual weekend retreats for Gold Star Families, and provides scholarships for Gold Star siblings. The nonprofit continually works to honor the Fallen, and, in May 2016, unveiled a memorial in Boston’s Seaport Park that recognizes those that sacrificed their lives while fighting in the Global War on Terrorism.
By providing support for Gold Star Families and returning Veterans, this fundraiser provides an opportunity to make the purchase of an everyday item, like light bulbs, be more impactful. These specialty LED packs also bring benefits to your home. The ENERGY STAR® certified LEDs in these packs provide convenient replacements for standard 60-watt incandescent bulbs, yet use over 80% less energy and can last over 25 times longer. These features can translate into cost-savings of more than $100 over each LED’s lifetime.
We hope you join us this year in helping reach our goal in support of Massachusetts Fallen Heroes. Your purchase of a specialty LED pack will support those who have served and their families, and bring you energy savings at home.
