CFL (compact florescent light) bulbs are the curly bulbs that were a popular option for energy-efficient lighting before advancements in LED (light emitting diode) lighting made LED bulbs widely available. Because CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends that consumers take advantage of local recycling options for CFLs. Nearly every part of a CFL can be recycled.
