Smart and programmable thermostats allow you to control your energy costs, even when you are not at home.

Smart thermostats use sensors and automation to automatically adjust to your habits and changing weather. They can be remote-monitored and adjusted via smartphones. Programmable thermostats, in comparison, also save energy, but are not responsive to conditions like weather or occupants present.

There are three ways to receive rebates on programmable or smart thermostats.

  1. Option One: Purchase Equipment & Apply for Rebate
    1. Confirm Eligibility

    2. Purchase Eligible Equipment 
      Purchase a 7-Day Programmable Thermostat or an ENERGY STAR® Certified Smart Thermostat.
    3. Submit Rebate Form with Required Documentation

  2. Option Two: Get Instant Rebates on the Mass Save Marketplace
    If you already have an account, log in to the Mass Save Marketplace to explore instant discounts on available programmable and smart thermostats. If creating a new account, you will need to link your utility account to the Marketplace to qualify for instant discounts by entering your gas or electric account number.
  3. Option Three: Get Instant Rebates from a Participating Retailer
    The Sponsors of Mass Save are partnering with retailers to offer residents instant, in-store discounts on 7-day Programmable Thermostats and ENERGY STAR. To receive the discount, visit the instant rebates portal to validate your eligibility and receive a code. You will need to have your utility account number on hand. Present the code at the register, and an instant rebate will be applied to the purchase price.
  • Offer valid only for residential customers in Massachusetts where Berkshire Gas, Cape Light Compact, Eversource, Liberty Utilities, National Grid, or Unitil is the Program Sponsor
  • Units must be installed between January 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026
  • Limit three (3) rebates per gas or electric account every 3 years.
  • Units must be new and must meet minimum qualification requirements
  • Rebate form and supporting documentation must be received by February 28, 2027
