It’s that time of the year again – we’re opening the windows, pulling out our grills, and pulling weeds which means summer is just about here. Mass Save wants to help you prepare for summer this year by bringing back its popular appliance recycling program for old, working refrigerators and freezers. New this year, the program is accepting primary refrigerators and secondary “basement” or “garage” refrigerators and freezers for recycling.

Get $75 to have us take your old refrigerator or freezer

Massachusetts residents, who are residential electric customers of Cape Light Compact, Eversource, National Grid, or Unitil, can get $50 plus a no-cost haul away of their refrigerator or freezer. We’ll take it off your hands while you get the satisfaction and confidence of knowing all the components will be safely recycled and disposed of, plus a $75 check! Recycling is popular in Massachusetts

How popular is recycling your refrigerator or freezer with Mass Save? Considering there’s been over 75,000 of them recycled through this program in a span of 6 years, we’d say pretty popular! Recycling is popular in particular during the hot and humid summer months when interest in purchasing new refrigerators and freezers increases. This phenomenon occurs primarily because they work harder in hotter temperatures, often signaling that it could be time for a new one.

Save up to $100 just by unplugging it

If having your fridge or freezer join the 75,000 that have already been recycled in Massachusetts isn’t enough of a motivator, consider your wallet. Old refrigerators, especially those from before 1990, are extremely inefficient in terms of energy use compared to newer models. Removing your old refrigerator or freezer from your house can save you up to $100 annually in energy costs. Plus, having someone else remove it from your home at NO COST will save your back.
