What to Expect

MassSAVE provides on-site Home Energy Assessments for residential customers who plan to invest in energy efficiency upgrades to their home. Trained Energy Specialists evaluate existing conditions and make site specific appropriate recommendations.

Utilizing a "house as a system" approach, the Home Energy Assessment specifically focuses on the building's thermal envelope (shell insulation and air leakage conditions) and mechanical systems to identify cost effective energy efficiency improvement and/or replacement opportunities. The service is fuel-neutral, meaning that all end-uses are evaluated regardless of the fuel used.

Home Energy Assessment Details
  • Takes 1 - 2 hours to complete but can vary depending on the size, style, and age of the home
  • Customers should provide access to all areas of the home as the evaluation will include a basement-to-attic inspection
  • Customers should compile a year's worth of usage information for all fuels (electric, gas, oil, propane, etc.) used in the home.
interactive.gif To obtain the maximum benefit from the service, all the decision makers of the household should allow sufficient time to participate in the assessment to gain an understanding of the recommended energy efficiency opportunities. It is important for the customer to understand the impact of the recommended improvements as well as the installation process necessary to complete the improvements.

The Energy Specialist will provide information on any available utility incentives and rebates for the recommended energy efficiency improvements along with information on the next steps to implement the recommendations.
